Vintage Gucci Accessory Collection Black GG Supreme Web Shoulder Bag (1980s)

A phenomenal vintage Gucci find and such a good everyday bag.

This vintage Gucci shoulder bag combines some of the House's most recognizable archival details: black GG monogram coated canvas, black leather trim, the iconic green and red Web stripe and beautiful gold-tone hardware.

The coated canvas is one of my favourite features of this bag. It is durable, lightweight and easy to wear year-round, while the black-on-black GG monogram gives it a much more understated look than traditional brown Gucci canvas.

The size is also fantastic. Large enough to carry your everyday essentials without feeling bulky, with a slim profile that sits comfortably against the body. For its age, this bag is in phenomenal vintage condition. This has been professionally ozoned, however there is a slight vintage smell - this should go away with regular use.

A LITTLE GUCCI HISTORY

This piece comes from Gucci's vintage Accessory Collection era, a period particularly associated with the 1970s and 1980s. Bags from this collection frequently combined Gucci's coated GG monogram canvas with leather trim, signature Web detailing and recognizable Gucci hardware.

The green and red Web is one of Gucci's longest-standing design signatures and continues to appear on modern GG Supreme bags today. Gucci still uses GG Supreme coated canvas because of its lightweight, flexible construction. It makes this bag a great example of how many of the details we associate with modern Gucci actually have roots in the House's vintage archive.

The adjustable strap is best suited to shoulder or higher crossbody wear. As shown in the  photos, it works crossbody on a petite frame, but the strap may not provide a comfortable crossbody length for taller individuals.

CONDITION

Phenomenal vintage condition, particularly considering its age. The black GG coated canvas presents beautifully with a strong, even monogram and excellent overall structure. The black leather trim is supple and exceptionally well preserved.

The interior has been professionally cleaned and presents very well. The main zipper and exterior pocket zipper both run smoothly. Gold-tone hardware shows normal age-related patina and light surface wear.

The primary sign of previous use is the adjustable leather strap, which has developed some waviness and has lost some of its original straight shape from years of storage and wear. This does not affect its function. Normal minor signs of age and previous use may be present throughout.

WHY I LOVE IT

This is vintage Gucci at its best. You get the GG monogram, Web stripe and gold hardware, but because everything is grounded in black, it feels incredibly wearable.

And unlike many vintage bags that you have to baby, the coated canvas makes this one an easy everyday choice. Throw in your phone, wallet, keys and essentials and go. The condition is what really sold me on this one. Finding vintage Gucci with its canvas, leather and interior this beautifully preserved is becoming harder, and I love that this one can actually be used rather than simply collected.
