A beautiful little piece of Louis Vuitton travel history.

This authentic vintage Louis Vuitton set includes a classic vachetta leather luggage tag accompanied by its matching poignet, the small buckled leather strap traditionally used to secure the handles of Louis Vuitton travel bags together.

Both pieces have developed a beautiful warm honey patina that only comes with time and use.

Originally created as functional travel accessories, these pieces are now increasingly sought after by vintage Louis Vuitton collectors. They are especially lovely for completing a vintage Keepall or other Louis Vuitton travel piece that has lost its original accessories.

WHAT IS A POIGNET?

The poignet is one of those small Louis Vuitton details that many people recognize without knowing its name.

Derived from the French word relating to the wrist or cuff, the poignet is the buckled leather handle holder traditionally found with Louis Vuitton travel bags. It wraps around the two rolled handles to hold them neatly together while carrying or storing the bag.

On vintage Louis Vuitton pieces, the poignet was made from natural vachetta leather. Like the handles and trim of the bag itself, it gradually darkens with exposure to air, handling and travel.

WHAT IS THE LUGGAGE TAG?

Louis Vuitton's heritage began with travel, long before handbags became the centre of the House.

Leather luggage tags were created as practical identification pieces for Louis Vuitton luggage and travel bags. Their simple shape and natural vachetta construction became part of the classic Louis Vuitton travel aesthetic.

These characteristics are part of the natural ageing process of untreated Louis Vuitton vachetta leather.

The luggage tag identified your piece while travelling, and the poignet kept the handles neatly together.
