Louis Vuitton Vintage Monogram St. Cloud MM (1989)

A true vintage Louis Vuitton classic.

The Saint Cloud MM is one of my favourite older Louis Vuitton crossbody styles. It has that simple saddle-inspired silhouette, classic Monogram canvas, an adjustable vachetta strap and the signature brass ring detail at the front.

This 1989 Saint Cloud MM is in great vintage condition. The Monogram canvas is strong and beautifully preserved, the adjustable leather strap remains strong, and most importantly, the leather side tabs are secure.

The main interior is clean and completely usable. Like many Saint Clouds from this era, the coated linings of the rear exterior pocket and interior zipper pocket show significant age-related wear. They don't look pretty, but both pockets have been cleaned and remain usable.

The front flap closes securely with its snap, and the bag is ready to be carried and enjoyed.

CONDITION

Great vintage condition with normal signs of age and previous use.

The Monogram coated canvas is strong and presents very well with good colour and structure. The vachetta leather has developed a warm vintage patina with normal marks and signs of previous use.

The adjustable strap remains strong and secure. Most importantly, the leather side tabs are intact and strong, with no structural concerns noted. The brass-tone hardware shows natural vintage patina. The front snap closure works securely.

The main interior compartment is clean and in very good vintage condition.

The rear exterior pocket and interior zipper pocket show age-related deterioration to their coated linings. Both have been cleaned and are completely usable, but cosmetically they do not look perfect. Please refer closely to the photographs.

This type of pocket deterioration is frequently seen on vintage Saint Cloud bags and does not affect the condition of the main compartment.

WHY I LOVE IT

The Saint Cloud is exactly what I love about vintage Louis Vuitton.

It is simple, lightweight and made to be worn. The Monogram has that older, richer look, the vachetta has developed naturally over time, and the brass ring on the front gives it just enough detail.

I also think the MM is the sweet spot in this style. You get a proper everyday crossbody without it feeling bulky.

And with these older Saint Clouds, I would much rather see strong canvas, strong side tabs and a solid strap with imperfect pockets than the other way around. Those are the pieces that matter when you're actually going to carry it.
