THE HISTORY

Locks have been part of Louis Vuitton's identity since the House's earliest days as a trunk maker. Georges Vuitton developed the brand's patented tumbler lock system in the late 19th century as a way to better secure Louis Vuitton trunks during travel.

That heritage eventually carried into the smaller brass padlocks found on many of Louis Vuitton's most recognizable bags and travel pieces.

The three-digit number stamped on the key corresponds to the lock it was made to operate.
